#ThisGirlCan is described on its dedicated website as "a celebration of active women and girls who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.  Funded by The National Lottery and developed by Sport England, we want to help overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping top many women and girls from joining in."

That's why this weekend's upcoming initiative to walk the 97-mile Cheshire Ring in 36 hours has been developed - to encourage, cajole and celebrate our girls, and their mums, grandmas, aunties, female friends to take part in physical exercise.  Walk, stroll, pace it or run - this Friday and Saturday along the canal towpaths of Cheshire will be all about our girls.

The Challenge will set off from Beech Hall at 6am, and will continue as girls leave school throughout the Friday to take part in three-mile stretches.  Some will walk throughout the night before the final 30-plus-strong leg aims to complete the challenge and arrive back at school around 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon.  This will lead us into a celebration of a wonderful achievement as we party around the barbecue and in the pool.  It would be lovely to see as many people there as possible to support and congratulate our girls.

I am delighted to confirm that the girls, led by Jenny Lyons (parent), have a scheduled interview with Silk FM on Thursday morning, that will replay throughout the day on Friday and Saturday in support of their efforts.  The girls are taking part in this challenge in support of "Becca's Wish To Walk".  Becca lives in Congleton, and has Cerebral Palsy affecting all of her limbs.  She has been selected for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery in Missouri.  In their letter the surgeon wrote: "her spasticity will be permanently reduced, her sitting and standing postures will improve, her transitions between positions will be easier and faster, her balance and level of comfort will improve.  We feel that Rebecca has a chance to walk..."  Our Just Giving page is currently at £757 which is great, but I know it can and will go so much higher.  Please do support our girls and Becca at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thisbeechhallgirlcan.

Great challenge.....Great cause.....Great opportunity to raise the profile of girls' participation in sport and exercise.....Good luck girls.

In our continuing efforts to raise the profile of #ThisGirlCan, and at the request of several mums, we will be opening the swimming pool for a number of "ladies only" sessions.  In the hope of favourable weather, the pool will be open to all our mums, grandmas, aunties and female family friends to use between 8.30 and 9.30am on Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th July.  So why not drop off your child, and pop in for a dip to start the day?
