Infants School - Reception, Year 1 & 2

InfantsChildren move from Reception Class to Year 1 and Year 2 in a carefully planned progression. Taught by experienced and well qualified teachers who enjoy the support of teaching assistants, children make rapid progress during what is known as the Key Stage 1 period of their education. The small classes ensure that a great deal of individual care and attention is given to each child. Children grow quickly in confidence during this stage and many are still sufficiently lively to stay on after school and participate in one of several after school clubs. As a result, by the age of seven, they are ready to enter the Junior School as confident, well prepared children who appreciate the challenges and opportunities offered at Beech Hall.
Parents are encouraged to closely follow the progress of their child. There is daily contact with the class teacher where routine concerns can be addressed, in addition to regular Parent/Teacher meetings and a twice-yearly report.

Junior School - Years 3 - Year 6

JuniorsWhile the National Curriculum underpins our curriculum, Beech Hall School remains committed to the high academic standards that parents expect and children deserve. We are determined to maintain important traditional qualities in our teaching and routine. This includes a commitment to ensure small classes and individual attention. As a result, each child is treated as an individual and great care is taken to ensure that every pupil realises their maximum potential.

In the Junior School, continual assessment of progress is communicated to parents in the form of oral and written reports. Parents are welcome to discuss their child’s progress with the teachers at any time.

Infant and Junior School Curriculum

Building on the experiences and foundations laid in the ‘Little Griffins’ Nursery, the children naturally make the transition to Beech Hall Infant School. Our small classes provide a high level of individual care and attention. The children in our Infant and Junior sections benefit from a broad curriculum. The importance of reading, writing and mathematics is stressed and these are taught by the child’s form teacher who is also responsible for the excellent pastoral care that our children receive. In addition, pupils benefit from specialist teaching in Science, IT, Music, Physical Education, French and Art. Beech Hall children are encouraged to take an interest in and develop an awareness of, the world around them together with the development of their creative and physical skills.

Sport and Extra-Curricular Activities

MusicThere is so much more to Beech Hall Junior School than just high academic attainment. The school has a thriving Music Department and children benefit from a wide range of peripatetic lessons in a whole host of instruments from an early age. There is a wide-ranging programme of extra curricular and sporting activities offered throughout the week and at weekends. Children may belong to any number of our many sports teams where the fixtures in all the major sports are played regularly. All pupils can expect to represent the school in some capacity from as young as seven years old in sporting competitions. In addition, many children participate in extra curricular clubs including cookery, art, needlework, drama, sailing, golf, dance, IT and a variety of choirs.
